Yankee in the park

On 21st October 2010 my classmates and I attended a talk about US culture. We all really looked forward to this event, mainly because we
don´t have the opportunity to communicate with native speakers so often, which is quite useful for our improvement in English. Because the discussion was planned to be held by the US ambassador, we were wondering what he would look like or if it wouldn´t be a lecture, besides too formal...

Then the day came, and when we first saw Nick Hauser, we were amazed! We had been expecting a man wearing a suit and a tie, but Nick, dressed like a cowboy, absolutely wasn’t like that. By the way, I was quite surprised that he wasn´t wearing a gun on his belt.

The presentation lasted two lessons and we had jogged our brains and learnt some new things of interest. We had already known a lot of basic things about the US and I bet everyone could name at least five US countries, although I guess some Yankees would have many difficulties even locating the Czech Republic in the middle of Europe. But fortunately, in the end we had learnt that there is no big difference between American teenagers and us – there is also a great deal of crazy people spending free time updating their facebook status... We are grateful for the presentation and we enjoyed it, so many thanks, and thanks for the cookies!
